More About us
Building Communities by Believing in People
Red Rose Recovery is not just a service provider; we are a vibrant, living community built on the belief that people are not defined by their past, but by their potential. As a Lived Experience Recovery Organisation (LERO), we are proud to be led by the very people we support. Our staff and volunteers use their personal experiences of addiction, mental health challenges, and the criminal justice system to inspire hope and provide a tangible example that recovery is not only possible but sustainable.
Our History and Mission
Established as a charity in 2012, we have grown into a nationally recognised pioneer in the recovery sector. Our mission is clear: to improve individual lives, build resilience, empower the voice of service users, and create stronger, better-connected families and communities. We were honoured to receive the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2018, a testament to the dedication of our peer-led teams who work tirelessly to ensure no one has to face their journey alone.
How We Work
We operate differently from traditional services. Rather than focusing solely on clinical treatment, we embrace a holistic model based on the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’: Connect, Be Active, Learn, Give Back, and Take Notice. This approach ensures we address the whole person, helping individuals rebuild their confidence, social networks, and sense of purpose.
We turn perceived weakness into a superpower. The lived experience of our team allows us to break down barriers and offer support without judgement. Whether that is through one-to-one mentoring, therapeutic groups, or community activities, we provide a safe space where individuals can be themselves.
System Leadership and User Forums
We are proud to act as system leaders providing infrastructure for user forums across the North West of the UK. By creating these platforms, we ensure that the voice of the recovery community is not just heard but is central to decision-making processes. Our cornerstone initiative is the Lancashire User Forum (LUF), the UK’s largest mutual aid forum, which allows service users to directly influence support systems and drive systemic change alongside partners like Lancashire County Council Public Health.
Building on this successful model, we have established other vital forums to serve specific communities, including North Yorkshire Connected Spaces, the Roots Community in Blackburn-with-Darwen, and Project Free in Greater Manchester. Through these networks, we amplify the lived experience of individuals across the region, ensuring that recovery support is designed by the people who know it best.
Join Our Community
At Red Rose Recovery, we are driven by the knowledge that recovery ripples outwards. When one person finds their footing, it transforms their family, their community, and eventually, the wider society. Whether you are looking for support, wishing to volunteer, or simply want to learn more, you are welcome here.

Beneficial because Scott and the team listen. They are not judgemental and have experiences what I am going through, Red Rose helped me by talking about the effects of drug misuse and how it effects my mental health.

A beneficiary spoke very highly of on of your staff, Annie, today. She feels that with Annie’s support, she is making progress. She acknowledges she has ongoing challenges, but feels Annie has been consistently supportive and listened to her throughout. She expressed sincere gratitude for Annie’s support.

I found it really hard, scary and had a lump of anxiety in my throat and my stomach all day but this afternoon I’ve been bowled over and honoured with such inspirations. Glad I was here and thankful, I will practice on these skills.

One of my clients messaged me today, saying thank you for making the referral to Red Rose Recovery. He said he’s had support from Jim, who’s supported him with his shopping and that he feels the ‘organisation is lifesaving’.
