Red Rose Recovery (RRR) has been featured in a significant research study highlighting its innovative approach to supporting individuals affected by substance use and criminalisation. This coproduction approach places lived experience at the heart of recovery, with those managing and working for RRR using their own journeys of recovery or desistance from crime to inspire and support others.
The study utilised a ‘photovoice’ research design, enabling participants to document their experiences through photography. This method provided a unique insight into the realities of those involved with RRR, fostering a collaborative analysis of the data. The resulting images and narratives shed light on how RRR’s coproduced services help to counteract feelings of pain, shame, exclusion, and disconnection. Instead, these services nurture valued relationships, build a sense of community, and create belonging within both built and natural environments.
The findings underscore the transformative power of lived-experience-led support systems in fostering recovery and resilience.
